Middle Border Forward Seeks Inaugural Executive Director

Middle Border Forward is an organization which began through a fellowship program funded by the Danville Regional Foundation in an effort to encourage, engage and develop young leaders in the community with an effort toward impacting their community in a positive way.  These fellows are committed to building a strong future for Danville & Pittsylvania County, Virginia and Caswell County, North Carolina.  Hiring an Executive Director will provide more continuity, support and focus as the organization executes its mission. 

Executive Director   

The Executive Director will build and cultivate the strong relationships with volunteers, interested citizens, community leaders, board members, committees, partner organizations and funders through a natural ability to connect and engage with others.  Active as the primary spokesperson for Middle Border Forward, this leader will work to be seen as a resource and thought partner to others organizations and leaders in the community.  This person will have an ability to convene individuals with different ideas and opinions and help them collectively come to appropriate calls to action.  In order to achieve the financial goals of the board and sustainability for the organization, the Executive Director will develop and implement successful fundraising strategies, to include seeking grants.  The Executive Director will also hire and lead an inclusive team, adequately representing the community. 


  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 5 years of experience in leadership, preferably nonprofit leadership
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Ability to fundraise and set fundraising strategies for the team and board
  • Experience working with a board and with board development
  • Effective facilitation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable with speaking in public
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Values social justice, equity and inclusion
  • Commitment to the Middle Border Region
